Monument Cottage is located in picturesque historic surroundings, that once formed part of the Panmure Estate. The deciduous woodland and it surrounds are rich in wildlife, making the location ideal for nature lovers , outdoor activity enthusiasts and all of the family – including the dog.
We spent a wonderful Christmas at Monument Cottage. It had everything we needed and a lovely surprise welcome package and card. Sharon and Dave could not have been nicer or more welcoming. We enjoyed walks in the surrounding wood. Our dog had the time of her life. It is close to the beach and we spent Christmas Eve on the beach watching the sun go down. Having never been away from home at Christmas we were a little apprehensive but it was a perfect place and we hope to return.
Beyond our expectations! A wonderful week at the beautiful monument cottage and it couldn’t have been better in any way. We arrived from the States with no luggage and Sharon, our wonderful host, became the point person dealing with the luggage delivery service. Help in this matter allowed us to explore the beautiful areas around the cottage, always looking forward to returning to our cosy home and wood burning stove. Our kitchen was well appointed and we so appreciated the welcome basket that greeted us on our arrival. Everything was perfect and we truly hated to leave.
We had a fabulous 10 days at Monument Cottage. It was great for my in-laws in their 80’s with the downstairs bedroom and bath and the whole cottage was immaculate. We found so many things to visit in the area, going as far as Edinburgh and Pitlochry for day trips. We would love to return.
Monument cottage is located in a wood in a secluded spot close to Monikie. Nice walks, peace and quiet, with plenty of wildlife close by is a plus, but this property is also close to whatever you might want in the area. The cottage contains all the modern amenities and Sharon stocks a great welcome basket to get you going. The only negative was we had to leave, we felt so at home! WiFi worked well and google maps brings you right to the door.
Will definitely return for future holidays.
A fantastic stay for our family of 5 (including 3 children) at this lovely cottage. Woodland setting was both private and pretty - it was especially lovely being able to lie in bed and watch the autumn leaves drift past the roof windows. We arrived in the dark after a long drive, and it was wonderful to come in to a lit fire and a well stocked welcome basket. Sharon was a great host, and the cottage has many thoughtful touches. Local area had plenty to see and do. We particuarly enjoyed a day at Glamis Castle (the Queen Mother's childhood home), which had an excellent guided tour.
We couldn't fault monument cottage, a wonderful setting, peaceful and quiet yet not far from Dundee, Montrose etc. The kitchen was well stocked with any cooking equipment you may require. Sharon had even got the wood burning stove going for us on our arrival. We enjoyed time walking round the grounds, Monikie country Park and day trips to Montrose, Dundee, Arbroath and Broughty Ferry. We also did a drive further a field to see the trees changing colour in the glens.
Monikie is only a small village hidden away near Carnoustie. Monument Cottage is a hidden-away gem even within that. It's set in a beautiful wood that used to be part of the Panmure estate, and is far enough away from the beaten track as to avoid completely any passing walkers, traffic or other disturbances. Deer are regular visitors to the garden and there are walks aplenty direct from the back door. The cottage itself is well appointed, but not just in the sense of having all the equipment from someone's pre-determined checklist. The rooms are all spacious and airy and all furniture is actually truly comfortable, and the owners have actually thought about what guests are actually likely to need, succeeding as a result in making the cottage feel like a home. We were, for instance, welcomed to, amongst other things, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a litre of milk in the fridge; just the things one might need on first arrival but not have been able to pick up on the journey. Moreover, we were provided with a personalised welcome note that gave all the information we were likely to need. The owners themselves are lovely; friendly, helpful and welcoming in equal measure. I cannot think of anything they could change that would have improved our stay in the slightest, and I would have no hesitation whatever in recommending a stay at this cottage.
We had a very enjoyable week. The house and grounds were lovely, ideal for walks, seeing deer, red squirrels, peacocks, hares etc in their natural habitat. Plenty of places to visit, short walk to the lake and 15 minutes from the coast. Sharon and her husband are very welcoming and helpful. If you're in need of peace and quiet then this is the place for you. Would highly recommend it and we will visit again.
